Day 10. The first day where I am alone all day. I am missing the comradeship, the conversation and security of my friends. Without them, I am confronted with the quietness of my own thoughts. This is, however, what I initially thought this walk would be - just me, my reflections, and the path stretching out ahead of me, a hundred miles away from my pain.

From a practical standpoint, today’s walking experience was relatively straightforward. While there had been some climbs along the way, they paled in comparison to that first week and I managed to cover the 19 miles in good time, feeling accomplished. The early part of the walk is bustling with activity, as I navigate through Newquay - a town renowned for its surfing beaches. Many fellow walkers and beachgoers share the path with me and it’s a long drag through this popular destination. And while the crowds may slow me down, they also serve as a bittersweet reminder of the experiences I’ve had with friends and family on this walk so far.

I arrived on the coast in St Agnes and of course had a half mile walk uphill to my Airbnb, but I was motivated by the thought of resting soon. When I finally reached the top of the hill, I rewarded myself with a cold beer, as I was early to the accommodation. It’s a moment of solitude that allows me to reflect on the journey so far.

Looking back, I have now walked 215 miles! Which means I have completed a third of the total distance I set out to conquer, with each mile bringing me closer to my destination, closer to my future, closer to having to find enjoyment in my solitude. Come on body keep strong.
