Day 30. Today marked the end of my stay at what can only be described as THE BEST AIRBNB EVER! I owe a huge thank you to my gracious hosts, Bern and Jacq. Their hospitality was exceptional; not only did they provide me with a fabulous bath and a big bed - complete with the most comfortable pillows I could imagine - but they also went above and beyond by driving me to the local pub for my evening meal, returning to pick me up afterward. They also donated to my fundraiser. AND the breakfast they prepared this morning was superb! 10/10.
The isle of Portland, my climb out of Osmington and Lulworth Cove
It was a good days walking, although an extremely tough first 14 miles. Weather was great, with clear skies and a gentle breeze and the scenery just beautiful, one of the highlights was definitely looking down upon the iconic Durdle Door, a natural limestone arch that has become a symbol of this coastal region. By the end of the day, I had accomplished over 4,500 feet of elevation and walked a total of 21 miles - not bad for the penultimate day! This brings my total to 616 miles walked, and the equivalent height of four Mount Everests climbed!
Another climb! and Kimmeridge Bay

During my trek, I encountered a lovely young lady who was also walking along this stretch of path. We struck up a conversation, and I shared with her what I was doing and why. Incredibly, her name was Anna. It resonated deeply with me, especially so close to the end of my 31 day walk. When we parted, I bade her farewell and said “take care, Anna.” Saying something I had said to so many people this last month suddenly just made me cry. I had called someone Anna for the first time since the day I lost her.
Soon after I met my very best friend Clive in Kimmeridge Bay and he walked with me to Worth Matravers. Clive has been there for me through thick and thin and has been my constant support throughout the years. So needless to say his presence today was comforting and he arrived just at the right time!
Aaaand another climb!
We got to our Hotel, The Kingston Country Courtyard, who have supported me since my booking. They welcomed me and I enjoyed ice, for my very sore leg, and a beer to celebrate the day’s accomplishments!
Later, we were joined by our friends Steve (who walked with me from Branscombe to Beer) and Viv for dinner. I had a really good evening, thankful for the friends and family that have made it out here to visit me this month.
So the last day awaits. I am ready to finish but already feeling emotional at the thought... Let’s see what tomorrow brings, as I complete this chapter and step into my new normal...
