On day 2 of the walk, I was fortunate to be joined by my son Max, along with our friend Ashley, my niece Sharon, her partner Matt, and of course, the ever-enthusiastic Bob. After the gruelling challenge of day 1, which had pushed us to our limits with a brutal 24 miles and an elevation gain of 5000 feet, we were faced with a slightly shorter yet still demanding trek of 19 miles.

This leg of the walk was not without its own challenges, as we encountered some incredible climbs that really tested our stamina. The terrain was uneven, with rocky paths and steep inclines, and at times, we found ourselves walking perilously close to sheer drops - sorry Anna, I'm being careful, promise!
Despite the physical demands, everyone in our group rose to the occasion. Their resilience and comradarie shone through, making the experience all the more enjoyable, with conversation and laughter filling sections of the walk.

As we made our way down into Combe Martin, I faced the first tears of the walk. Anna and I shared our first weekend away together in this beautiful area, near the quaint village of Berrynarbour. I recall the laughter we shared when our romantic evening was interrupted by the loud braying of a donkey right outside our window. I have never forgotten this, it's funny the simple joys that stick with you forever.

As we made our way through Combe Martin, we all took a moment to relax and enjoy a refreshing beer together. This break was well-deserved after the challenges of the day, and it allowed us to recharge before continuing on our journey to Ilfracombe.
Just as we settled into a comfortable rhythm and Ilfracombe came into view, with only a mile and a half left to go, we were met with an unexpected twist; we encountered the steepest climb of the day. Now this really tested our resolve and determination to finish and I could hear Max swearing to himself up ahead. But we conquered it and made it to our accommodation, The Olive Branch Hotel. It was a fitting conclusion to a day filled with ups and downs, both literally and emotionally.
