Day 18. I worked hard on my thigh last night after a rigorous day, ice then bath then deep heat rub, getting my thumbs deep into the muscle. This morning, I repeated this process and must have done a good job as I got through the nearly 4000ft climb and 22 miles with no repeat of yesterday's nagging discomfort. In fact throughout the day, despite the sweltering heat, I felt surprisingly good. I made it a point to start my trek early, allowing me to enjoy a few cooler miles before the sun reached its peak intensity and I took the day at a steady pace.

Along the way today I met and chatted with a few people and as always used these opportunities to share my story. Many took details of the website, so fingers crossed some choose to donate.

The scenery today was lovely, with stunning views made even more so by the bright sunlight casting a glow across every rock and tree and luscious pasture, with the sea remarkably calm, reflecting the clear blue sky above.

As I sit here, writing this in the Galleon Inn, located right in the heart of the harbour of Fowey (pronounced Foy), I find myself remembering past golf trips and other short getaways and times away from Anna. I would always make it a point to call home in the evenings to say hi, check in, and we would chat about each other's day. Those small moments of connection now weigh heavily on my heart. And though these memories remind me of the love, companionship and cherished times I shared with Anna, they also force me to swallow the harsh reality that such phone calls home are a thing of the past. Even though I am miles away from our home, thoughts of Anna still surround me, ever-present, wrapping around me...

As I prepare for bed, I am acutely aware that tomorrow presents significant challenges - a big climb and the forecast suggests it will be another hot day. I need to rest well to face tomorrow head on. And just maybe I will see Anna in my dreams.
