Day 16. Wow, the kindness I am being shown goes on and on. The Paris Hotel, which was perfectly placed right on the path, not only gave me my room for free but also generously covered my drinks and evening meal.

This level of hospitality is truly above and beyond what I expected, and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Jamie and the entire team at The Paris Hotel for such kindness. I will put all the money I saved during my stay there into the fundraiser. Gestures like this from Jamie and The Paris Hotel and everyone I have met along the way that want to help in whatever way they can, fuel me on my journey and I can’t express enough how supported I feel.

The weather today was absolutely glorious, with bright sunshine illuminating and bringing a vibrance to the landscape. It makes such a significant difference to the overall experience of the walk.

After covering 5 miles I arrived in Porthallow, which marks the official halfway point of the South West Coast Path at 315 miles from where i started in Minehead. Although I have already walked a total of 325 miles to reach this point, thanks to some detours and extra laps to and from certain accommodations and drinking establishments.

HALFWAY!!!
HALFWAY!!!

The walk today was quite straightforward, just over 3000 feet of elevation gain, and I covered a total distance of 20.5 miles. Quite a lot of walking without seeing the sea but some wonderful estuary views at Helford and Falmouth. I met quite a few people along the way who expressed interest in my walk, so fingers crossed they make their way to the website and to the JustGiving page!

I have to also mention here that my daughter's close friend Rachel Sherwin, much loved by Anna, Max and I, an honorary Brown family member, took it upon herself to go out in her 'For The Love of Anna' t-shirt collecting donations in Manchester today! Another example of people doing whatever they can to help our cause. I continue to be so thankful and so touched. People care.

During the course of my journey today, I took two ferries: one at Gillan Creek and another crossing the Helford River. Each ferry ride allowing me to take a brief break from walking while enjoying that familiar, refreshing, salty breeze on my face.

Upon my arrival at my hotel, I was warmly welcomed by my dear friend Julian, who had driven down specifically to see me and treat me to a meal. It was a real joy to see a familiar, friendly face after so many days alone on the path.

My hotel did not have a bar or do food so I had to walk some more to have a beer and a meal - extra steps I could do without! Nevertheless, the prospect of sharing a meal and catching up with Julian made the additional walk worthwhile. It was a lovely end to an already memorable and fulfilling day on the path.
