My view while writing my blog this morning

Day 14. I somewhat reluctantly left my lovely room at The Ship Inn, where I had enjoyed a delightful stay, and headed out for the day with a delicious prawn salad sandwich in hand. The first six miles of todays walk were absolute bliss. Although walking through the towns of Newlyn and Penzance was a little boring at least it was flat!

After passing the spectacular St Michael's Mount, a truly breathtaking sight rising from the sea, the day took a turn. The climbing began, and the heavens opened, unleashing a downpour that would accompany me for the remainder of the day. Much of the walking from Penzance was hill top and with high hedges lining the paths, so with that and the weather, the views were limited.

A very wet, solo traveler

As I trudged along I encountered very few people, until a thin path near Prussia Cove when an elderly lady walker with poles appeared through the rain and overgrown hedgerows. I stepped aside to let her pass and she thanked me, she then said there were more in her party... and 17 rather slow moving walkers later, I could get going again.

There is always at least one thing that reminds me of Anna everyday and today it was the vibrant Red Hot Poker flowers blooming outside a beautiful cottage I passed. She loved those flowers, gifting them to our friend Theresa - who joined me recently on the walk. Theresa still has them and sent me a photo of them today.

When I reached Paradise Sands I decided to take a break to ice my leg, which had begun to feel the strain of the continuous walking. So obviously had to have a pint too! And the pub was a welcome respite from the relentless weather. After this much-needed rest, I faced an incredibly lonely stretch to my hotel. By the end of the day, I was very tired once again, the rain was draining. Let’s hope for a better day tomorrow…

Huge thank you to my daughter's bin painting pal Roger, for surprising me with a credit behind the bar when I arrived to my accommodation! What a welcome surprise that was! Alex’s friends and colleagues have really gotten behind supporting me and my fundraising and I am constantly blown away by it. My kids seem have some really good people around them.
